"Crecí escuchando muchos géneros de música y tocando diferentes instrumentos, de niño estaba muy interesado en explorar este mundo de la música y saltaba de un instrumento a otro sin aprender a dominar ninguno. Creo que quizás porque tengo TDAH y me aburro fácilmente jaja. Así que las cosas rodaron y fui a la escuela secundaria de música donde conocí a otros músicos y me sumergí más en este mundo, durante la secundaria, cuando tenía 17 años, fui a una fiesta de psytrance, que es un género muy popular en Israel. Hice un viaje y quedé impresionado por la música, un extraño e interminable viaje de sonido que rompe todas las barreras. Eso era nuevo para mí, recuerdo volver a casa desde la fiesta, directamente a mi vieja y pésima computadora portátil, escribiendo en YouTube 'cómo hacer música electrónica' y desde ese momento nunca paré, como dije antes que me aburro fácilmente, creo que el hecho de que la música electrónica tenga infinitas opciones me atrapó más, puedo ser el baterista/cantante/guitarrista/pianista o lo que quiera, todo junto :)"

"Recuerdo ir a mi primer evento Midburn hace un par de años (el Burning Man israelí). No conocía a muchas personas allí en ese momento, al menos no lo suficiente como para subirme a los grandes escenarios... era un mundo nuevo para mí. Durante uno de los días del festival, me encontré con un amigo mío que estaba tocando en ese momento y la pista de baile estaba vacía, así que me llamó preguntándome si quería tocar en su lugar y lo acepté. 20 minutos después, de repente, la gente empezó a unirse a mí y en algún momento creo que reuní alrededor de 500 personas, atardecer, un set de 3 a 4 horas, fue simplemente mágico. Sentí que no necesitaba forzar, no necesitaba pedir atención, la multitud, la música y yo éramos uno. Después del set, me sorprendió la cantidad de personas que reaccionaron a mi música y actuación, recibí mucha atención, amor y refuerzo para seguir haciendo lo que hago".

Primer Lanzamiento:

Nos lleva de vuelta al inicio de 'Shekem Electric', su primer lanzamiento como OMRI., y el gratificante viaje que recorrió, ganando finalmente reconocimiento en la escena de la música electrónica.

"Mi primer lanzamiento como OMRI. - 'Shekem Electric' fue hecho con Adam Ten y lanzado en la serie 'Singles Club' de Disco Halal en 2020. He sido amigo de Adam durante unos 6 años, así que recuerdo tener este proyecto en mi computadora ya en camino a la basura jaja. Un día Adam vino a mi estudio y le puse la pista (que sonaba muy diferente de la que se lanzó) y tenía muchas ideas geniales para agregar a la melodía. En resumen, se sumergió en ese proyecto muy rápidamente y recuerdo que tenía un concierto ese mismo día justo debajo de mi apartamento, así que me uní a él para escuchar la primera versión y fue increíble, la gente reaccionó tan bien a la pista que simplemente tuvimos la sensación de que iba a ser reconocida en la escena de la música electrónica y así fue. La pista alcanzó el primer lugar en el top 100 de Indie Dance de Beatport en su primera semana, creo que puedo hablar por ambos al decir que estábamos muy orgullosos".

Tus lanzamientos parecen muy bien pensados y seleccionados, lanzados en una serie de etiquetas de primera clase. ¿Alguien te ha aconsejado al respecto? ¿Cómo te manejas en el estudio?

"Desde el principio, supe que no iba a comprometer mis lanzamientos. Me he puesto metas altas para mí mismo con etiquetas específicas en las que quería presentar mi música, creí en mí mismo, en mi música y confié en el proceso. Mi rutina de estudio es una constante, siempre estoy en el estudio trabajando y mejorándome. La pregunta no es '¿Cuándo voy a entrar al estudio?', sino más bien '¿Cuándo salgo del estudio?'. Este año alcancé algunas de mis metas con lanzamientos en Rumors, Rebellion y Crosstown Rebels, y eso reafirma mis instintos".

Debut Internacional:

OMRI. relata sus experiencias transformadoras y los momentos cruciales durante su gira internacional que dirigieron su dirección musical hacia la música house.

"A los 19 años, empecé un dúo de proyecto Psytrance con uno de mis amigos que ya estaba establecido en la industria de los raves. Cuando tenía 20, tuve la oportunidad de hacer mi primera gira internacional. Fuimos de gira por América del Sur y Central y tocamos nuestra música original. El cambio ocurrió cuando llegamos a Tulum. Escuché música house por primera vez y me impactó profundamente. En ese momento supe que esa era mi onda. Dejé el dúo y comencé a producir música house. La combinación de lo psicodélico del psytrance y el groove de la música house me llevó al sonido que genero hoy en día".

Enfoque Futurista:

"A medida que avanzo en mi carrera y me sumerjo más profundamente en el mundo de la cultura house, siento que todavía no hay un hogar para la música en la que creo. Hablando de objetivos, mi principal meta es difundir la idea de lo ilimitada que puede ser la música, quiero dar a otros el coraje y la confianza para explorar, probar cosas nuevas y siempre romper las barreras. Como dije antes, intento entregar nuevas referencias y estándares al público y a los productores, y este también es mi objetivo final, convertirme en un pilar en la frontera de la innovación musical. Creo que la música que presentaré en mi sello representará esta agenda con pistas que son poco convencionales, psicodélicas y funky".

"Como dije antes, crecí escuchando muchos géneros diferentes como blues, jazz, rock, hip hop, psytrance y música psicodélica en general, así que creo que es algo que se queda conmigo. Cada período de mi vida cambió un poco algo dentro de mí, construyendo lentamente hasta este punto. Para mí, la fusión de diferentes géneros se siente natural, honestamente, no le doy mucha importancia, es simplemente mi forma de ser jaja".

"Después de haber estado en Burning Man, AfrikaBurn, Midburn y muchos otros eventos Burn más pequeños, puedo decir que es lo más hermoso que hay. La gente, el arte, el arduo trabajo, las mentes abiertas, el amor, el cuidado y el compartir es simplemente algo fuera de este mundo. Miles de personas se reúnen durante una semana +- de pura diversión, ¿qué puede ser mejor que eso? Si me preguntas sobre mi experiencia musical en el Burn, puedo decir de nuevo que es simplemente lo mejor, así como la gente es amable y abierta entre sí, también están más abiertos a experimentar nueva música, no hay prisa, nadie tiene prisa por despertarse para ir a trabajar o llevar al niño a la escuela, simplemente están allí, viviendo y abrazando el momento, escuchando pero escuchando la música sin teléfonos celulares ni otras distracciones. Y como artista, vivo de eso, vivo de la energía que recibo cuando toco mi música y cuando la gente escucha, soy realmente feliz :)"

Técnica en DJ Sets:

"Entonces, cuando me preguntas sobre mis técnicas de DJ, puedo decir que para mí es muy importante tener todas las armas necesarias para la guerra jaja. Con eso me refiero a 4 CDJs 3000 enlazados y una mezcladora v10 con un RMX-1000, ¿y por qué? No me gusta mezclar solo con fade in y fade out... Me gusta jugar y hacer loops, añadir voces o melodías a un groove sólido y simplemente tratar de empujar el límite en cada set. También es muy importante para mí, como individuo, hacer contacto visual con el público, mirar la pista de baile y tratar de entender lo que la pista de baile necesita y cómo se conecta con lo que quiero 'decir'".

Incluso en el proceso de trabajo - si tienes un flujo de trabajo específico - recomiendo cambiarlo a menudo, empezar con ideas diferentes, puede ser un groove diferente, una melodía, una voz o lo que sea y acercarte a cada canción de manera diferente. Lo más importante, trata de encontrar el equilibrio entre tus ideas más locas y las necesidades de tus oyentes."

Musical Awakening:

“I grew up listening to many genres of music and playing different instruments, as a child I was very interested in exploring this world of music and I was jumping from one instrument to another never learning how to master any instrument. I think maybe because I have A.D.D and I get bored easily haha. So, things rolled and I went to music high school there I met other musicians and dived into this world more, during high school when I was 17 I went to a psytrance party which is a very popular genre in Israel. I took a trip and I was blown away by the music, a strange, endless ride of sound that breaks all boundaries. That was new to me, I remember myself going back home from the party, straight to my old shitty laptop typing on YouTube “how to make electronic music” and since that moment I never stopped, as I said before that I get bored easily, I think the fact that electronic music has endless options caught me the most, I can be the drummer/singer/guitarist/ pianist or whatever I want all together :)”

Inception Gig:

“I remember going to my first Midburn event a couple of years ago ( Israeli Burning Man ) I didn’t know many people there back then - not enough to get me on the big stages at least... it was a new world for me. during one of the days at the festival, I came across a friend of mine who was playing at that moment and the dance floor was empty so he called me asking if I wanted to play instead of him and I took it - 20 minutes later suddenly people started to join me at some point I think I gathered around 500 people, sunset, 3 -4 hours set, it was just magical. I felt like I didn’t need to push, I didn’t need to ask for attention, the crowd the music, and myself were one. After the set I was blown away by the number of people who reacted to my music & performance, I got a lot of attention, love, and reinforcement to keep doing what I do.”

First Release:

He takes us back to the inception of ‘Shekem Electric’, his first release as OMRI., and the rewarding journey it traversed, eventually earning recognition in the electronic music scene.

“My first release as OMRI. - ‘Shekem Electric’ was made with Adam Ten and released on Disco Halal ‘Singles Club’ series in 2020. Me and Adam been friends for around 6 years so I remember having this project on my computer already on the way to the trash haha. one day Adam came to my studio and I played him the track (which sounded very different from the one that was released) and he had lots of great ideas to add to the tune. Long story short he jumped into that project very quickly and I remember that he had a gig on the same day right under my apartment so I joined him to listen to the first version and it was sick, people reacted so well to the track that we just had the feeling it’ll get recognition in the electronic music scene and so it did. The track hit 1st place in Beatport Indie Dance’s top 100 tracks in its first week, I think I can talk for both of us and say we were very proud.”

Your releases seem very well thought out and curated, released on a series of top-class labels. Has anybody advised you on that front? How do you go about in the studio?

“Since the beginning, I knew I was not going to compromise on my releases. I’ve set high goals for myself with specific labels in which I wanted to feature my music, believed in myself, in my music, and trusted the process. My studio routine is a NON-STOP one, I’m always in the studio working and improving myself. The question is not “When am I going into the studio?”, it’s more like “When do I leave the studio?”. This year I reached some of my goals with releases on Rumors, Rebellion, and Crosstown Rebels, and it reassures my instincts”.

International Debut:

OMRI. recounts his transformative experiences and the pivotal moments during his international tour that steered his musical direction towards house music.

“At the age of 19, I started a duo of Psytrance project with one of my friends who was already established in the raving industry, when I was 20 I got to go on my first International tour. We went for a tour in South & Central America and got to play our original music. The change occurred when we arrived in Tulum. I heard house music for the first time and it hit me hard. At that moment I knew that this was my vibe. I left the duo and started producing house music. The combination of psychedelic coming from psytrance and the groove of house music led me to the sound I generate today”

Futuristic Approach:

OMRI. shares his vision and determination to push musical boundaries, aiming to inspire others to explore and embrace the limitless possibilities of music.

“As I move forward with my career and diving deeper into the world of house culture I feel like there’s yet no home for the music I believe in - when talking about goals, my main goal is to spread the word on how limitless music can be, I want to give others the courage and confidence to explore, to try new things and to always break the barriers. As I said before, I try to deliver new references and standards to the audience and producers, and this is also my end goal, to become a mainstay in the frontier of music innovation. I believe that the music I’ll feature in my label will present this agenda with tracks that are unconventional, psychedelic, and Funky”.

“As I said before I grew up listening to a lot of different genres such as - blues, jazz, rock, hip hop, psytrance, and psychedelic music in general, so I think it’s a thing that stays with me. every period of my life changed a little something inside of me, built slowly to this point. For me, the fusion of different genres feels natural, honestly, I don’t give it that much thought, it’s just the way I am haha.”

“After I’ve been to Burning Man, AfrikaBurn Midburn, and many other smaller Burn events I can say that it’s the most beautiful thing there is. Thousands of people gather together for a week +- of pure fun, what’s better than that? If you ask me about my musical experience in the burn I can say again it's just the best, same as people are kind and open to each other they are also more open to experiencing new music, there’s no rush, no one is in a hurry to wake up for work or take the kid to school, they are just there, living and embracing the moment, listening but listening to the music without cellphones or any other distractions. and as an artist I live from that, I live from the energy I receive when I play my music, and when people listen, I’m really happy :)”

“So, when you ask me about my Dj techniques I can say for me it’s very important to have all the weapons needed for war haha by that I mean 4 linked CDJs 3000 and a v10 Mixer with a RMX-1000 and why is that? I don’t like to mix fade in fade out… I like to mess around and loop stuff, add vocals or melodies to a solid groove and just try to push the limit every set. Also, very important to me as an individual to make eye contact with the crowd, to look at the dance floor and to try to understand what the dance floor needs and how it connects with what I want to “say”.”

“I believe that the uniqueness is in me and it’s something that will never change, I try not to listen to the outside “noise” that can maybe affect my way of thinking.

for the good or for the bad I do what I do from the bottom of my heart. Tel Aviv’s Music Scene: I try not to let outside variables affect me. I can say that the local temperament along with the fact that our country is moving in a fast pace affect my music in some way that it’s restless , in my productions there’s always a lot of things going on , like the Israeli people , I can’t stay still and I get bored very easily haha so yes I guess you can feel the rush sometimes :)”

Advice for Aspiring Artists:

“The best advice I can give to an artist is to be yourself, yes, I know, I know how it’s sounds, super cheesy, but that’s true... Simple as that, just do what you believe in, but be egoless... Test the music, change it, always try to renovate and to get outside of your comfort zone. Even in the working process - if you have a specific workflow - I recommend to change it often, start from different ideas, it can be a different groove or melody or vocal or whatever and approach to each tune differently. Most important, try to find the balance between your craziest ideas to the need of your listeners.”
