Jean Pierre: music, movement and evolution

Jean Pierre’s journey through music has been defined by constant reinvention. From his early days in New York to his years in Miami and Colombia, his recent move to Barcelona represents a deeper search for artistic inspiration and growth. Driven by a desire to immerse himself in a new environment, he’s found a fresh creative spark in Barcelona’s underground culture, reshaping his sound and approach. With a new album on the horizon and a commitment to supporting rising talent, Jean Pierre’s story is a testament to resilience, passion, and the ongoing evolution of his craft.
MOVING FROM MIAMI TO BARCELONA: A NEW CHAPTER
Relocating to Barcelona marks a transformative period for Jean Pierre, a DJ and producer whose career has spanned multiple cities and continents. Beyond music, his move represents a deep-seated desire for change, growth, and renewed inspiration. Having spent years in Miami, New York, and Colombia, his European experience was limited to summers in Ibiza. The decision to fully immerse himself in Barcelona’s rich culture was driven by a longing for a deeper artistic connection and a shift in pace.
"I wasn’t truly inspired anymore," Jean Pierre admits. "I wanted an environment that would push me artistically, and Barcelona’s history and diverse venues have done exactly that. Since setting up my studio at La Marina, I’ve found myself finishing more music than ever. It’s been a refreshing shift, even though I still miss my friends and that Miami Beach vibe, especially during the winter."
The transition from Miami’s sun-soaked, high-energy scene to Barcelona’s deep, underground aesthetic has significantly reshaped his vision. While both cities have thriving electronic music cultures, they express them in distinctly different ways. For Jean Pierre, Barcelona’s intricate underground spaces and historical richness provide a creative spark unlike any other.
THE INFLUENCE OF PLACE ON SOUND
Having built his career across multiple global hubs, Jean Pierre acknowledges the influence of each location on his music. However, he maintains that his core identity remains intact regardless of where he is.
"Each city has left a mark on my sound, but that NYC drive is always there. Connecting with producers from different regions constantly fuels my growth,"he explains. "Music is a lifelong learning process, and every city carries a unique energy that shapes how I approach my craft."
The concept of "home" is fluid for touring artists, and Jean Pierre reflects on the impact of a physical location on creative output.
"When I was younger, flying constantly and functioning on little sleep was manageable. But as I’ve grown, I realize that having a stable home base is crucial for productivity. While making music on a plane or in a hotel is possible, nothing compares to the consistency and focus I achieve in my studio."

UPCOMING RELEASES AND STUDIO WORK
Jean Pierre’s second studio album, set for release on Pakate Records in August, aligns with his milestone 40th birthday. Reflecting on his journey, he imagines what he would tell his younger self—the aspiring DJ who first started in New York:
"Stay strong, stay patient, and keep going. Push yourself to explore different sounds and embrace the challenges. My first album with Nervous Records was a major breakthrough in NYC, back when CDs were still a thing. Today’s digital world presents new challenges, but the goal remains the same: create something timeless."
His decision to release vinyl-only records through Melodie, distributed by Yoyaku, signals a deep appreciation for the physical and tactile aspects of music.
"Vinyl has been part of my life since the beginning," Jean Pierre shares. "I’m incredibly proud of Natalia Roth and her label, Melodie. She’s worked tirelessly to establish it, and I’m honored to be part of these releases. Having a vinyl outlet backed by Yoyaku is the perfect way to kick off 2025. Stay tuned—these records will definitely make some noise."
Another major upcoming project is his Miami Music Week VA compilation, featuring emerging talent from around the world. As someone who built his career from the ground up, Jean Pierre knows the importance of recognizing rising artists.
"For me, it starts with the music—100%. I have to feel it first before signing or releasing anything. Playing the records and seeing their impact on the dance floor is crucial. Over time, I also get to know the artists personally, and having that hunger and dedication is key in this industry."
The compilation includes tracks from artists like Zamoras, Mausa, Davide Mentesana, Natalia Roth, ACA, and Copasetic, among others.
"These artists bring something fresh to the table. This VA will showcase some incredible talent, and I’m excited for people to hear it."
PAKATE RECORDS: A VISION OF ARTISTIC FREEDOM
Jean Pierre has worked with some of the most respected labels in the industry, including Cuttin’Headz, Hot Creations, and Mindshake. However, Pakate Records represents something uniquely personal.
"Owning my imprint is my way of giving back and creating a platform that embodies my vision," he says.
"My label manager, Francesco, and I work hard to stay true to our principles. We are always searching for new music while maintaining quality and consistency."
Pakate’s evolution extends beyond just releases—it’s also a platform for live showcases at international events.
"We’re taking it to the next level with showcases in Thailand for the Soulfire Festival, Off Sonar, and Ibiza this summer. Bringing our sound directly to clubs and festivals makes the journey even more special."
ADVICE FOR UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS
The electronic music industry operates in cycles—genres rise and fall, trends come and go. Jean Pierre offers valuable insight into staying ahead of the curve while maintaining authenticity.
"Stay true to yourself. Always remember why you started. Do it for the love of music, not for fame or money. Passion should drive you. There are so many ways to evolve—learning never stops. Platforms like Synthohub, Studio Orbit, and even YouTube offer incredible resources to expand your knowledge."
His journey, marked by both highs and lows, has taught him a crucial lesson: resilience is everything.
"As I approach 40, I realize that change is inevitable. I’ve experienced massive success and moments of struggle when bookings slowed down. But as long as you stay true to your craft and put in the work, you’ll find a way forward. What you give to the music will always come back to you. Stay humble, keep learning, and above all, love what you do—even when no one else is watching."
With a career spanning decades and multiple continents, Jean Pierre’s story is one of perseverance, passion, and evolution. His move to Barcelona, upcoming releases, and dedication to supporting new talent illustrate a journey that continues to inspire, proving that the pursuit of artistry never truly ends.
